“I’m really nervous! I’ve never performed or acted before and I might get stage fright,” said Jonathan Portillo, ‘16, “but I’ve learned how to get out of my comfort zone and to take risks because that’s what this is about.”

After almost two months of rehearsals, the cast members in Kennedy’s upcoming play Things My Mother Taught Me by Katherine DiSavino, are ready to perform. “We need to tweak some things, but overall with hard work, we could pull through,” added Jonathan.

The play is a romantic comedy in which a young couple moves into an apartment. The guy plans on proposing. Things don’t go well for the young man because everything turns into a disaster. “There really are not main characters,” said Jonathan, “Since the cast is so small, everyone has a huge role, although the main characters are the lovers.”

The cast is composed of experienced Kennedy actors, Kennedy students who have never acted, and students who are new to Kennedy. Despite the potential inexperience, cast members practiced four days a week. “These kids have put in so much work and even though it’s been tough, they will be ready to perform because their hard work will pay off,” said Kia Davis, the play’s director and club sponsor.

“Having someone to be there for you, either a family member or simply just your best friend means a lot. In every aspect of life, having some support is always a great thing. It would be great if people come come out and see the great work that these kids have done,” said Ms. Davis.

The play is performing Friday and Saturday night at 7:00 pm and Sunday at 2:00 pm.
